Our first trip together as a real couple. It's New Years Eve. Maggie's on winter break. We just celebrated our first Christmas & Hannakuh together. Everything has to be perfect, right?!? *Long exhale*, in retrospect, I had the absolute time of my life, but in the moment, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't anxious. Inclement weather (Maine in winter!), new hotel, out-of-season drag - I wanted this trip to be perfect! Well, I think it really was. In just two days, we were able to fit in so much and I actually loved the still and tranquil Bar Harbor in the peak of winter. Our stay (shoutout to the Pathmaker Hotel) was so nice and cozy, and the breakfasts were so simple yet delicious. Acadia on New Year's Day was special, especially on Sand Beach during a snowstorm. So lucky we could borrow my sister's Wrangler to get us through the snow (it probably snowed like 14 inches while we there). I cross country ski'd for the first time ever. And we climbed a bunch of snowy rocks and trails to get better views of the Gulf of Maine. My favorite memory is probably both Maggie and I getting all powdered up to go out and enjoy a nearby restaurant, only to find out that upon arrival it was closed. We were absolutely in the thick of a snow storm with wind chills in the negatives which left us no option but to sprint back to the hotel in the middle of the road in the evening's dark (it was the only thing slightly plowed!). By the time we made it back, our hair was frozen, we were soaked, shaking from the cold, and each of us had to use the lobby bathroom just to bring us back to reality. We capped it off with an amazing dinner and drinks though. I'd do this all again. Acadia was gorgeous. Bar Harbor is always a treat (Sherman's book store staying open year-round is so cool - Maine's oldest bookstore). The Pathmaker was a delight (to the friendly Australian family we visisted, safe travels home!), and I was joined by the best company in the world.
